Agriculture
Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, SOE, are also engaged in intensive care of meadows and other agricultural areas.
Forage preparation
Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, SOE, manage approximately 2 900 ha of agricultural land. The land is used mainly for the production of fodder for livestock and forest animals, and also for grazing the cattle. In the main season, more than 700 cattle in various age categories are placed on farms held by MFE SR. 172 ha of agricultural land are used for growing fast-growing poplars.
The requirements for the breeding of game and livestock require a quality forage base and a balanced feed ration, which ensures sufficient energy and nutrients for animals and game in the winter months. The basic precondition for such nutrition is the high quality of the basic feeds, which we ensure at our own expense by mowing the grasslands and the subsequent production of bulk fodder (meadow hay and silage). With the right choice of agricultural cultivation techniques and suitable agrarian technology, these are the cheapest source of fodder.
The period of mowing greatly influences the nutrient content. We mow the grasslands in due agrarian periods in accordance with the best time-period and method of harvest so that the nutritional value of the produced fodder is as high as possible. The average annual production of fodder for the needs of MFE SR is about 2,500 tons of haylage and 340 tons of hay.
Caring for our future. The principal activity of Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, SOE, is the wildlife and forest management.
