Certification of constantly sustainable forests management is the process in which an independent certification body reviews whether the forest management meets the certification criteria of constantly sustainable forest management (CSFM)

The forests certification or forest products is also direct economic device to carry through a certain principles of forests management into practice. Important lumber companies claim certificated wood. Their products are certificated too, which informs the customer that the future of forest had not been endangered by their production. The Chain of Custody (C-o-C) is the confirmation for customer buying the product that the wood the product is made of, comes from the certificated forest. All lumber mills participated in production of this good have to be owners of C-o-C.

Each participant of certification process who has met the conditions of certification scheme, will obtain “The Certificate of Participation in Forests Certification“ from the state-owned enterprise Forests of SR. The issued certificate implies the higher demands to the quality of performed work, to forest ecologization, to manipulation with logging waste, to observance safety rules at work and to abidance of technological practices. Its importance rises with the business expansion and in communication with clients and the third parties or interest groups in component of forests management (Civil Service and Self-Government Bodies in areas of relevance, Bodies of Environment Protection, local population, villages) and general public. Validity of the certificate is time-limited for the five-year period maximum. After expiration of this period, the complex revision of management compliance is provided.

Certifikovaná spoločnosť je následne po vydaní certifikát spotrebiteľského reťazca (C-o-C) zaregistrovaná do celosvetového informačného registra PEFC certifikovaných organizácií. Uvedený certifikát sa vydáva spravidla na obdobie 5-tich rokov a dodržiavanie požiadaviek každoročne kontroluje certifikačný orgán prostredníctvom tzv. dozorových auditov.

According to the observed state of forest management, in compliance with its certification conditions and with criteria of constantly sustainable forest management, on 20th October, 2017, Forests of the Slovak Republic, SOE Banská Bystrica issued us The Certificate of Participation in Forest Certification No. 1076/2017.

The certification confirms that Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, Forest Management Pliešovce, manages the forests in a constantly sustainable way according to the demands of Slovak System of Forests Certification PEFC. It also confirms that forest lands managed by Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, Forest Management Pliešovce on the area of 8 598 hectares are the part of region – “The Middle“. This region is represented by Forests of SR, which have been certified by TÜV SÜD Slovakia according to certification criteria defined by “Slovak System of Forest Certification“ (SFCS 1002 – 1005:2004) and on 14th January, 2016 it was certified by PEFC Council, too.

According to the observed state of forest management, in compliance with its certification conditions and with criteria of constantly sustainable forest management, on 12th July 2018, Forests of the Slovak Republic, SOE, Banská Bystrica issued The Certificate of participation in forest certification No. 4066/2018.

The certificate confirms that Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, branch office Malacky manages forests in a sustainable manner in accordance with the requirements of the Slovak Forest Certification System PEFC, and that forest lands managed by Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, SOE, branch office Malacky with an area of 24 399 ha are the part of Western Region represented by the state enterprise Forests of the Slovak Republic, had been certified by TÜV SÜD Slovakia certification criteria defined by "Slovak system of forest certification" (SFCS 1003: 2014), which was, by meeting the requirements of PEFC recognized by PEFC Council on 14th January 2016.

The certification confirms that Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, branch office Kežmarok manages forests in a constantly sustainable way according to requirements of Slovak System of Forests Certification PEFC. It also confirms that forest lands managed by Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, branch office Kežmarok on the area of 18 262,52 ha are the part of region - The East. This region is represented by Forests of the Slovak Republic. It had been certified by TÜV SÜD Slovakia according to certification criteria defined by “Slovak System of Forest Certification“ (SFCS 1003:2014) and on 14/01/2016, it was certified by PEFC Council, too.

It also confirms that forest lands managed by Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, branch office Kamenica n/Cir. on the area of 14 611 hectares are the part of region - The East. This region is represented by Forests of the Slovak Republic, and it had been certified by TÜV SÜD Slovakia according to certification criteria defined by “Slovak System of Forest Certification“ (SFCS 1003:20014) and on 14/01/2016, it was certified by PEFC Council, too.

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® FSC-C157107) is an independent international non-governmental organization (association) that promotes environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management. The FSC creates a space for people with different interests and focus for discussing and solving the problems of forest management in the world. The FSC was founded in 1993 and operates worldwide through a network of national initiatives and regional offices. The goals and ideas of FSC in Slovakia are supported and promoted by the organization FSC Slovakia.

The FSC has developed an international forest certification system in the world, which makes it possible to identify and verify responsible forest management that balances environmental, social and economic requirements. The requirements are defined in the FSC forest management standard based on 10 principles and 56 criteria. The principles and criteria apply to all: Tropical and temperate forests as well as boreal forests. The Slovak Republic uses FSC principles and criteria supplemented by indicators of individual certification organizations to certificate the forests according to the FSC system. Harvested timber and timber products meeting these criteria may be marked with the FSC logo so that it can be further monitored as it moves through the processing chain, thus guaranteeing the credibility of the complex system.

FSC is a standardized, internationally accepted, functional and readily available system.

FSC certification of forest management evaluates the management of a specific forest property. In order for an FSC certificate to be issued, forest management must meet strict economic, environmental and social requirements. The key pillars of the FSC certification system are 10 principles and 56 FSC criteria.

Based on the identified state of forest management and its compliance with certification conditions and criteria of sustainable management, SGS Slovakia Ltd. , Kysucká 14, 04011 Košice issued the SGS-FM / COC-011972 Certificate on 14th May 2020.

The certificate confirms that the Military Forests and Estates of the Slovak Republic, SOE, the branch office Malacky, manages forests responsibly and the management takes equal account of environmental, social and economic interests.
